Surplus Line Association of California's Mission Statement
Our measure of success in this respect is that the consumer is protected, the needs of the regulators are well-served, and unlawful activities are curtailed. Through a professional and committed organization, utilizing state of the art technology and a challenging work environment, we respond to the needs of the California consumer, our membership, and appropriate public agencies. We provide education, processing, evaluation, and dissemination of Surplus Line data and information to help ensure the financial integrity and stability of the non-admitted market. This statement was developed under the guidance of a Strategic Planning subcommittee of the Executive Committee, with input from all of the SLA managers and staff as well as the Executive Committee. In order to accomplish the mission statement, the staff of the Association has been reorganized into two principal operations: the Stamping Office Function and Outreach Function. Both will report to the Executive Director. |

At the present time, we are doing some in-house reorganization' including getting a Human Resources person to assist with the reorganization, starting with updating all of our present job descriptions. Besides Sandy and myself, there is a management staff consisting of the following: Linda Cheng, Manager, Financial Department; Iona Bovee, Manager, Membership & Consumer Affairs; David Koon, Manager, Data Services; Judith Flowers, Manager, Data Processing; Nadine Watso, Manager Education. I look forward to working with all my staff, as well as all of you. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call.On a sad note, Albert "Ben" Herrick III passed away suddenly on July 6, 1996. Ben worked for the Surplus Line Association of California from 1966 to 1981. He was the Manager from 1978 to 1981, at which time he took retirement. Ben never really retired, he was an active member in his community as well as maintaining the family owned Herrick Vineyards in Healdsburg. We also lost another good friend on August 11, 1996, when T. C. (Skip) Anderson passed away. Skip was a member of the Surplus Line Association of Arizona since 1977. He served as the President since 1992. Skip was also very active as a member and officer of NAPSLO. Both Ben and Skip will be missed. |
